Agree that life is not always like the movies - or the books. But I did read my Bible, in context, and your explanation of the marriage metaphor between Christ and the church is out of context and not exactly scriptural. In fact, that metaphor is evoked consistently to demonstrate both the love and sacrifice that Christ provided the church (his bride), but also as an example of the type of love, dedication, and forgiveness that is to be exercised in marriage. Regardless of an individual, or modern cultural acceptance - this is what the Bible teaches. Can’t comment on the book – didn’t read it. Agree that life is not always like the movies – or the books.
